A lifelong enthusiasm for the inherent rhythms and patterns of nature, the joy of working with families and the respect I have for birth are the underlying fabric of my passion for midwifery. Attending to women and their families during the childbearing year is at the same time a reminder of how beautifully patterned we are, and yet still incredibly complex and unique.
As it is with many midwives, the spark of midwifery began with the birth of my first child and has endured and grown through the years. Beginning my work in the healing arts in 1997, I practiced for 10 years as a massage therapist and natural health counselor, later I became certified as a Childbirth Educator and Doula. In 2005 I was accepted by Seattle Midwifery School into their three-year program and have been attending births regularly since that time. My midwifery experiences range from attending hospital births in Nepal to candle lit homebirths in California with a great variety of beautiful births in between.
I believe that birth is a cultural event, a sacred time for families; a threshold for both the baby and parents to cross. When a woman is empowered, informed and well supported she is able to function in the way nature intends. I believe my role as midwife is to help guide families gently and act as a guardian of the normal process of birth.
