Many women have discovered that acupuncture makes them feel significantly better during and after pregnancy. It is the treatment of choice when gentle rebalancing is desired, assisting your body in re-establishing its natural state of health.

I am a licensed acupuncturist in the State of Washington, and I received my Masters in Acupuncture degree from the Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NIAOM) in Seattle. My clinical training was completed at NIAOM, Harborview Medical Center, and Country Doctor Community Health Clinic.

Acupuncture is part of a system of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) developed over 2,500 years ago. The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine's effectiveness in treating many common disorders, such as morning sickness, abdominal pain, edema, hypertension, headaches, musculoskeletal pain, PMS, and many conditions related to pregnancy. Acupuncture has also been successfully used to induce labor, turn a breech fetus, enhance fertility and to aid in conception.

I believe that everyone is supported by an impulse to wellness, an internal wisdom that knows how to heal the mind and body and be well. This innate healing capacity can be overcome by stress, infection, disease and emotional factors that can make it difficult for our bodies to maintain a healthy balance. Acupuncture and TCM can help restore this balance and create the energetic conditions for recovery and the return to vitality.

What to expect from an acupuncture treatment?

For a typical office visit for acupuncture treatment, you will be asked to complete a detailed health history questionnaire and we will spend time discussing the details of your health prior to pregnancy as well as current pregnancy-related symptoms. I will also do pulse readings on both wrists and look at your tongue, which is a primary indicator of energetic issues existing at a constitutional level.

During treatment, you'll be asked to lie on a massage table. I insert extremely small-diameter (smaller than a human hair) stainless needles to a very short depth through the skin at acceptable acupuncture points. The treatment should not be painful and many people report that they don't feel the needles at all. Needles are left in place for approximately 20 minutes, then removed. Depending on the condition and cause, Chinese herbal remedies may be appropriate.
